Peter Robbins, Chef der Internet Watch Foundation hat ZDNEt ein Interview zu den bemerkenswerten Fehlleistungen seiner Organisation gegeben.
Darin beschwert er sich über übermäßige Kritik:
Unfortunately the debate was touched off around censorship, but that’s not our function. We publish a list [of content] that organisations block on a voluntary basis. But that is secondary to our main [activities], which have always been our hotline, and notice and takedown. That’s what self-regulation brought about.
Selbstregulierung und nicht Zensur, das ist der Grundgedanke der IWF. Die Provider tun etwas und darum muss der Staat nicht tätig werden. Alles klar getrennt – oder etwa nicht?
Offenbar ist das nicht so ganz klar – denn direkt im Anschluss sagt Robbins dies:
We heard later on that people could get around the [Wikipedia] blocking. Other attempts to evade blocking will be dealt with by the police.
